Being our first pregnancy, my husband and I wanted it to be special in every way possible. While looking up a creative way to tell him I was pregnant, I found a creative way to reveal to our family and friends the gender. We sent out invitations and decided to host a party for our closest family and friends. I found the theme that I wanted on Etsy, ordered the invites and created my own decorations. If you aren't so artsy-fartsy, you can always order the decor from the same company that created the invites.
My inspiration came from another's blog. CLICK HERE to see it! We ordered our invites from Loralee Lewis. They were beautiful!
Here we are before the party...
I made sure the party colors coordinated with the invites (brown, pale yellow and cream). I created the banner pictured below. I purchased pale yellow paper plates and doilies. Then, I printed off the letters in the font I wanted and laid the doilies on top to trace. I traced with a dark brown marker, then colored in. Then, using glue dots, I pieced together the doilies to the paper plates. I slit 2 holes in the back of the each plate and strung them with fishing line. Not too shabby!
For the food, I had a buffet of finger foods, a candy bar and a drink/punch station. The buffet consisted of meatballs, chicken salad sandwiches (cut-n-sealed, Pampered Chef), pretzels, 3 tiers of grapes and cheese, a cheeseball with crackers/celery, sausage balls, and pigs-n-blankets. Each dish had a fancy food label (made by me of course). The party picks I got off of Etsy, CLICK HERE.
The drink/punch station had Sweet Tea and Lemon-Pineapple Punch. This punch was AMAZING. HERE is the recipe. Then, I set out mason jars for drinking and purchased yellow/white paper straws and added my own tags!
The candy bar featured cake pops made by my sister, bless her heart. I asked her to make them to look like chicks. They were a hit. I had my brother make the cake-pop stand.
I only wanted one game. The Old Wives Tale game. You can find the old wives tales online. I created a posterboard as the game board. Then, I cut out each little chick by hand. On the front, the question. On the back, the gender per answer. As you can see, Boy was in the lead!
And last, but certainly not least....THE CAKE! I sent the bakery the results which were sealed by the ultra sound tech. The bakery did exactly what I asked! Everyone kept looking at it trying to determine the color inside, but she did an excellent job of covering it with icing. It was delish. The cake banner was made by me (2 kabob sticks, string and ribbon). The cake stand is Martha Stewart.
Well, the Old Wives Tales were WRONG! haha What a wonderful event!
